Actually, the 70's were called the "me" decade, while they were still going on. The peace and love types were angered by the more self-centred attitudes of people after the 60's. (I first noticed this change in May 1972, but that's a long dull story, just like this reply is rapidly becoming). I think it's only since the end of the 80's that revisionist lefty journalists and THAT crowd have been trying to slough the name off onto the Reagan years, not being content with having called that period "The Decade of Greed". Actually, considering that the "Decade of Greed" name was partly predicated on the stock market success, and that the stock market REALLY took off during the Clinton years, and that Clinton was a self-centred, self-aggrandizing jerk, I think we need to move "The Decade of Greed" name from the 80's to the 90's.

More specifically, it was Tom Wolfe who hung "The Me Decade" upon the 1970s - in an essay called "The Me Decade and the Third Great Awakening," which remains in print in his collection Mauve Gloves and Madmen, Clutter & Vine.
As for the Clinton decade, how about...it depends on what your definition of 'decade' is...
