Police Squad, The Young Ones, et al. Strange, but in my teenage years I loved Monty Python, & later I appreciated the Young Ones. But watching them now, the magic is long gone.
My all time funniest:
- Police Squad.
- Sledge Hammer! Except for the laugh track, its timing was perfect. It's a pity David Raasche hasn't tried comedy again.
- NewsRadio: Esp. Jimmy James (Steven Root), & Dave Nelson (Dave Foley). Best scene: From Catherine's last day, Matt is trying to explain how he dropped the coffee pot, where the Hamburgler sneaks in from offscreen & pushes it out of his hands. That had me literally crying & gasping for breath!
- Seinfeld. Never predictable.
My current favorites:
- That 70's Show. Imaginative writing (esp. the daydream sequences), and a cast that works well. Worst show: That 80's Show. Ugh!
- Andy Richter Controls the Universe. More imaginative writing, very funny first episodes.
- Undeclared. Good writing, and funny, natural actors.
- Futurama.
Sledge Hammer! Definately an under-appreciated gem.
I'll bump most of all the above shows so far, and will add "Moonlighting," a show with Bruce Willis, a very different and very funny Bruce Willis compared to his movies.
