What are some of your favorite comedy shows of all time?

For myself, I like Howard Stern's old Channel 9 show, Fawlty Towers, Police Squad, The Young Ones, et al. I'm sure other people have different ideals as to what they consider humorous....

Why is this in News/Activism?

It belongs in General Interest.

But there is only one answer: "The Andy Griffith Show.

Not for bellylaffs, but for humor as it ought to be.

I also liked the first two Bob Newhart shows a lot, and
My World, and Welcome to It.

Early years of Saturday Night Live! with the whole ensemble of the NotReadyForPrimeTimePlayers. Gaze upon that cast, ye would-be comedians, and despair.

Currently, Red Dwarf has got to be the funniest show on TV.

In the past, I Love Lucy.

My World and Welcome to It

You and I must have been the only ones to watch that show. It didn't last long. James Thurber was my favorite cartoonist/humorist during high school.

Another sit-com that didn't last long that I really liked was Brooklyn Bridge. It reminded me so much of my childhood in Chicago in the '50s and '60s.

Get Smart!

Yes, that was a very funny show that made me laugh back in the mid-'60s. I don't know that I would find it as funny now.

All-time best TV show period.

The Taxi episode where Jim gets his Hack license.

Jim: What does a yellow light mean?

"Slow down."

Jim: W h a t _ d o e s _ a _ y e l l o w _ l i g h t _ m e a n ?

"Slow down!"

Jim: (Same, but he drags out each word even longer.)

Or the episode where Elaine takes Jim as her date for the fancy recital and the scheduled pianist can't make it so Jim volunteers to fill in. ("I must've had lessons.")

I'm still cracking up. Hahahahahahahaha.

I must put in my vote for "Lucille Ball" She was the Queen!!! Her book, "Love, Lucy" is a must read. That entire cast made "I Love Lucy" The Greatest show ever....... Desi Arnaz was a television genius as well.

>>The live turkey giveaway episope of WKRP in Cincinatti was far and away the single funniest episode of a sitcom ever.

As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

My funniest top 5:

1. Beverly Hillbillies

2. Green Acres

3. WKRP in Cincinnati

4. Hogan's Heroes

5. Married With Children

In its time, Lucy. For all time, now that's tricky. I was just a kid, but I remember teary eyes from laughing at the Ernie Kovacs Show and Lunch With Soupy Sales. Best ever would have underlying, timeless values, which is rare for comedy. So I would have to go with My World and Welcome to It. No sitcom writer approaches Thurber.

”Washingtoon” (Main character was Named Senator Forehead)

Don't remember the name of the second series, but it was about an exfootball player who retired and in the episode is a bar owner. He was a kicker for a professional football team and was known as "Joe the Toe." He was straight, but his brother wasn't. Can anybody remember the name of this series?]

Both series were all too funny.

For my taste, Fawlty Towers, hands down...there may be only about a dozen episodes...more's the pity.

I must put in my vote for "Lucille Ball"

Oh Rickie! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

There was a movie out last fall, Rat Race (a remake of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World basically) in which Cuba Gooding Jr. ends up driving a bus load of Lucille Ball imitators.

Also way back on SNL, Gilda Radner was lucy in a skit where she had to take bombs off the end of a conveyor belt and carry them somewhere else. Well, of course, the belt kept moving faster and faster. That was a funny parody of a really stupid Lucy show.

What about "Soap"? A young Billy Crystal as the gay son and Bob the puppet.
