Pat Metheny Group / 'Live' in Austin!

Ok ok, I know this is a complete vanity, and no, I don't work for 'em.
But I was fortunate enough to have been able to see these six young men
perform last night at the Bass Auditorium at the Univ. of Texas in Austin,
and their talent is simply awe-inspiring !

Four boys from the heartland, one from Cameroon,
and a Mexican drummer who is not to be believed !

Over the past twenty five years, I've seen a lot of the top
electric jazz/fusion bands in the business in concert,
and there is certainly none better than this one.

Last night's version of my all-time favorite, 'Are You Going With Me',
was even more hauntingly beautiful than I'd hoped.

If they come to a town near you, and you have ~$40 to spare,
do yourself a favor, take a break for a couple hours, and go have a listen ...

Love Pat Methany. I saw him in concert years ago with Lyle Mays. [A good combination... ]

lyle mays is still with him, btw.

(guess this won't be the shortest thread in history, but betcha it's damned close ! )

Lyle Mays is not only good in the jazz/fusion genre, but is a fine interpreter of ballads in the mainstream, solo piano tradition of Tatum-Jones-Peterson. I heard his solo concert in the Sproul Hall series, and was surprised and impressed.
