[history]
Through ghastly circumstance, it is once again Manhattan's tallest skyscraper. But the Empire State Building has always been so much more.
NEW YORK -- There it is, popping out from between the skyscrapers as you face south from Central Park. There it is again, soaring above the sidewalk as you gaze east from Macy's on 34th Street.

Very few people, other than the "let's show 'em" crowd, are clamoring to rebuild the 110-story World Trade Center exactly it was, and it is easy to understand why. The twin towers were utterly banal boxes, built by a big public agency -- the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey -- that couldn't distinguish between quantity and quality. I don't want to see the towers rebuild.
HD, try pinging people in! LOL

Today, at a time of anxiety about the future of tall buildings, the Empire State reminds us of the glory of building into the sky, and of making the reach from earth to heaven. It is a beacon, a sundial, a totem, a cathedral tower, a reassuring symbol that life can -- and should -- go on. Excellent article HD.

One more try, then I give up, I've got to get SOME work done! Same architect, later date.

That'll get your mast ready for dirigible mooring
worst euphemism ever....

Rather than rebuild the towers, it would be more gratifying to watch jihadist cities burn. After victory, the question can be reconsidered.
