I do think we need a sense of community, but I believe that sense of community needs to be based on our right to be individuals. I think I'm trying to say that the main thing we should have a sense of community about is our sense of every one of us being an individual, with the free thought and varying goals that that entails.
One of the main justifications for socialism is the "good of the community," so it usually makes me worry to hear about such things. But a community has to be made up of individuals.
