Yeesh! I've got to do alot of explaining with you. I'm going to have to send you my kit -- how to read my mind and receive instant clarification of everything I'm thinking (even when I'm not clear)! :)

Netanyahu used that line on Tim Russert after Russert said "well... people don't think the West is under threat by Islamic terrorists". Netanyahu responded: "Well, that's because their understanding of history goes to breakfast." Which I thought summed it up pretty well.

People (not all people... so, I'm not making any judgments or being condescending to anyone... I'm explaining Bibi's thought here. I agree with Bibi, but no one take offense... I'm not looking for an argument) who do not realize the threat the West finds itself under probably do not have a clear understanding of the history of the last 100 years. Their understanding of the conflict goes back so far and stops. That's why they can say... "nah, there's no threat..." If you understood the whole history of Islam... and the Crusades, and the colonization of the Middle East, and the Zionists, and the Israeli/Arab conflict, and the defeat of the Soviets in Afghanistan, and 10 years of non-retaliation of America on terrorism. If you understand what Resolution 242 says and how it has been perverted by the media... etc. Then you might have different opinion of whether we were under threat (or not).

After 9/11, when I began to study I had a very simplistic view of why we were attacked. My understanding of history went to breakfast (very shallow). As I began to learn, my understanding grew. The deeper I delved the more I'm convinced it is a clash of civilizations.

I hope that clarifies it a bit more. I will get that kit to you in the mail.

Thanks, Carton.

I didn't know breakfast was considered a shallow meal, since I rarely eat it, so the analogy confused me. What about 2nd breakfast? Just kidding :-)

I agree with most of what you say, except I doubt your personal understanding ever went to breakfast.

Right away after 9/11, I felt instinctively that Western Civilization was under attack, and the existence of nuclear weapons makes the danger mortal, IMO.

I never liked Tony Blair, as I saw him as part of the Left, which I believe he is, but he put his finger on the truth by saying publicly that 9/11 was an attack on Western Civilization. Lots of Europeans want to pretend to themselves that the attack is only on the U.S., when the reality is probably that the U.S. was attacked by Al Qaeda merely because we are the main fortress these days of the West.

Thanks for all your insights, Carton, they are really valuable and helpful, I am learning alot.
