I agree with you about PJ's Aragorn, Hair. He may have doubts and may fear his reaction to the Ring based on Isildur's weakness, but he knows he will be King.
At the council of Elrond when Legolas is telling Boromir who Strider is, you see Strider lift his chin up like he's saying, "Yeah, I'm the heir to the throne, what're you gonna do about it?"
The only place where I see Aragorn "doubt" his Kingly destination is when he and Boromir are talking in Lothlorien. Boromir ends his "called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets" speech and tells Aragorn that they will both enter Minas Tirith in triumph. I think the look on Aragorn's face kind of betrays his doubting that will happen. My wife says Aragorn is probably thinking, "Yeah right bub, when we enter Minas Tirith I will be King, I won't just be tagging along with you."

I am not overly fond of the scene with Boromir and Aragorn on Lothlorien..
But I see it as your wife does, I think... That Boromir's talking reminds him that he will have a confrontation with Boromir, and Boromir's father when he gets there. And he is not at all certain how welcome is leadership will be to Boromir in particular. He is foreseeing a time in the future that is touchy.
