Can't go wrong with a 1911 colt or clone...There are so many options to choose from. Go to a reputable gun store, try a few out for fit...Springfield Armory, Caspian, and Kimber all make various models in various sizes and Mag capacity...I recommend any of those...
If you don't mind a meatier grip, check out ParaOrdnance...some of their models have double-stacked high-capacity mags...check out their LDAs (double action) are fantastic...
Once you narrow it down, go to a range that will let you rent a model that your interested in and see how you like it...
If you're buying a carry gun, think size and your wardrobe..."will I be able to hide it on my body?"...and don't cut corners or settle for the cheaper model...remember...the gun you choose may just save your life...and then again, it might not...
