I can see Russell Crowe as attractive (even if an insufferable jerk) out of that character. And yeah, it wasn't a sexy role. Likewise I think Tom Hanks is attractive (and a nice guy), but not sexy as Rain Man ;~D

I like Tom Hanks...seen a lot of his movies. He does the "appealing normal guy" thing very well!

I don't know about his politics and I'd rather NOT know...seems like so many people here get completely wrapped up in who and what people are off screen and have to keep track of which directors or actors they'll allow themselves to see. I'd rather not go that route.
