I agree that PJ left Gimli looking like a dunce, expecially when he was prattling on about red meat off the bone when there are bodies everywhere. lol!
But I didn't think it made any difference who decided to go there.
I could justify the wimpiness of Frodo with the need to show his growth and change as the films progress.... Even within this film... from wimpiness at Weathertop to "I will take it" at Rivendell... Frodo does not remain unchanged, perhaps like the other characters do so far. I dunno.

Frodo does not remain unchanged, perhaps like the other characters do so far. That's how I felt about the fact that, in the Shire at least, Frodo was too "pretty."

The "red meat" line is VERY quotable, though...it's amazing how many conversations my brothers and sisters work that into. Drives my Dad nuts!
