I think it was supposed to be a satire making fun of the types who stupidly criticize LOTR (and other movies). I think it was mostly lame (liked the reference to the French though).

Exactly what I thought. Like someone making FUN of that guy that thought he was coming home with the extended release. Or someone getting upset over the name of the movie being the Two Towers.
