Good morning All!
Well, we're running into a bit of a problem. It seems Katie wants nothing to do with anyone but me. She won't mind anyone else (just ignores them), she won't play with anyone else (won't even make eye contact with them). If the kids take her outside, she won't play with them...just stands by the door till she can come back in with me.
I think I must remind her of someone. But the thing is, I really don't want a pet! Remember my philosphy? I don't want a pet I can't eat.
She slept on the foot of Josh's bed last night, but kept trying to come in with me off and on.

Have the kids feed the dog...
Seriously, when I got my labrador at 3 years old, he didn't know me from Adam, and he was a problem dog for someone else. For the first couple weeks, everything he ate came from my hand. He did not get food in a bowl. He got a little every time he came to me, sat, every time he did something good. have the kids walk around with kibble in their pockets!
OK - I am really off now!

She won't mind anyone else (just ignores them), she won't play with anyone else (won't even make eye contact with them). I'm no dog expert, but it appears she's labeled you as the "alpha dog," or the head of the pack (don't tell Steve).
You might want to consider obedience school. We didn't for our lab and regret it now. He won't ask anyone but me to take him out (unless I'm not there and he's desperate). And he won't poop except when I take him out.
But for now, have the boys feed her and take her out (even if you're with them). If she recognizes that she'll only get food from them, then she'll change her allegiance.
Like I said, I'm no expert. But you need to address these things while she's young.
