While we're in poem posting mode...this is an old traditional song that my parents used to sing to us as a lullaby. It has taken on a whole new meaning in the past few months...I'd never really reflected on the lyrics before.
FARTHER ALONG
Tempted and tried we're oft' made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long
While there are others living about us
Never molested, though in the wrong
Farther along we'll know more about it
Farther along we'll understand why
Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine
We'll understand it all by and by
When death has come and taken our loved ones
Leaving our homes so lonely and drear
Then do we wonder how others prosper
Living so wicked year after year
Farther along we'll know more about it
Farther along we'll understand why
Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine
We'll understand it all by and by

Love that one. Have you heard the "Trio" album by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt? I think you'd like it. (it's several years old)

What a beautiful poem!!

Have you heard the "Trio" album by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt?I haven't, but you may be right - I might like it a lot. I do find that I like Dolly's songs more than I like her voice...and much of her stuff is too "pop" flavored. I do have and like one of her more recent, more acoustic CDs (The Grass is Blue), and I like Emmylou.

I don't know how old for sure this current cat is, because he showed up at my door. He may be quite old, his glaucoma being one symptom that leads me to think that... The vets think he is most definately in his teens.
I have never gone looking for a cat but I have always had one. For that reason, I have never had a kitten. They just show up.
This one (he is number 8) came and hung around for a few months shortly after Seven disappeared. Then he disappeared for over two months, showing up again on his deathbed, a rack of bones, and full of abscesses from a tangle with something. By the time the vet got done shaving and stitching him he looked like he had been partially digested by some large animal and then regurgitated! (wicked giggling)
After healing, and neutering, he hasn't left again since. He never even roamed out of the yard again. I think he found that wandering was a risky business!

The "Trio" album is basically a remix of some "oldies." The three-part harmony is great.

I think he found that wandering was a risky business! Well, you did take away his main reason for wandering...

Yes, I suppose I did!

You're a Celtic type girl, have you ever seen the movie The Secret of Roan Inish? My wife and daughter love that movie. My wife bought the soundtrack as well. The music is pretty haunting.

That is a nice poem Rosie!
I have to go for a wee bit.... then I will be back!
To: ksen
have you ever seen the movie The Secret of Roan Inish?Yes, I've seen it! Actually, we may be watching that this weekend as the kids have been wanting to watch it, partly because of the music.
I should look up the soundtrack and see who is on it!
To: All
For some reason, mention of "The Secret of Roan Inish" reminded me of another kids film that we thoroughly enjoyed...has anyone seen "The Little Kidnappers"?
To: RosieCotton
If my wife is doing something around the house she either puts FoTR on, or Roan Inish just to have something to listen to.

Considering miniature dachshunds (unlike most mini breeds) were actually bred for hunting small game and rodents, I guess it's in her blood. We had a mini doxie when I was a teenager; (she was also Susie) She used to have a great time trying to get squirrels in our back yard. I once saw her climb halfway up a tree going after one!

You want to talk about sneakin'? I'm the Queen SNEAK I tell ya! LOL I snuck right into that Red Dragon and watched the trailer plastered clear over the screen from about 6 rows back! Then I came out holding my ticket looking mystified, in case someone stopped me...I would say "Gee...isn't this Jonah?" LOL I know, I'm terrible. But you guys can handle it. But nobody even took notice of me.
It was fabulous!
Jonah was really good too. Got more than a couple of chuckles from it, as is usual with Veggie Tales.

All I can say is that these cats are very lucky that they came a-callin at your door.
I've seen some of the most horrible tihngs that people can do to animals in my years at the vet. It never ceased to amaze me how EVIL some "humans" can be.
I'm glad to hear how much everyone in here loves their four legged babies!!
It's almost five, so I must be off. Have to do some last minute work for the boss and then I'm heading to my other job (mommy) at home. I thank God every day that my mom is able to watch the girls so I can help keep a roof over our heads. Miami has gotten so expensive! Hubby and I have been talking about moving, but we both love our jobs (decent pay, good hours, GREAT bosses!)
See you all on Monday! I'll have breakfast ready when you get here, hopefully.

I haven't seen that one. What's it about?Hm...how to explain it without ruining it!?
It's about two little (one of 'em REALLY little!) Scottish boys are sent to live with their grandfather (Charleton Heston) in Nova Scotia, after being orphaned as a result of the Boer War. They "rescue" a "babby" they find on the beach. It's maybe a bit corny in parts, but very funny, too.

Yes sir-ree!
