Good Morning Hobbits - It is a glorious Sunday here - Blue Sky and mild temperatures! - Did you sleep well? Are you rested?
To: MozartLover
Hey, MozartLover, don't feel too bad about saying you like Harry Potter... I've read all the books (family thing, we read the new one aloud together when it comes out) and I enjoy them; they're nowhere near as good as people claim, but hey... at least they aren't by Robert Jordan.
It's a lovely Sunday here, hope you guys are having as nice weather! Anyone forget about the time change?

Good morning! Buttermilk pancakes with juice and coffee this morning! The weather is dreadful, raining and thundering. A good day to spend on the couch with a book. I started FOTR last night.
With two boys with cabin fever about...I can only dream.

I forgot about the time change, but my computer and my cable box remembered! My machines are smarter than I am.
Sipping some coffee and having some toast... Have to go up to my Dad's and do the taxes today.

Trying out the Beta FR Chat Room.... Go to the Chat annoucement thread...... What?
To: 2Jedismom
JohnRob is building chat rooms into Free Republic... I was playing in it last night.
Beat Chat Room Thread We can make our own rooms there in an instant.
The particular software used is being tried out... I think he will try a few different ones, and the interface is rough still. I can go make one up if you want to check it out.

Ok... This mac though...hmmm...
To: 2Jedismom
It's Java... I asked John last night if you could get in with a Mac when I pinged you... he thinks so, it would be a good test.
To: 2Jedismom
I am in it... go to the thread for the link... I don't think I can send you the link because you have to log in first.
To: HairOfTheDog
I gave it a try using Netscape and it booted me off my browser. I'll try one more time in Netscape then try in IE and see if I can get in.
To: 2Jedismom
Well that worked.... This will be an interesting new toy for Free Republic....

Hey All-Knowing-One! I have a question I brought up in the FR chat but got bugged by a disruptor before we could really discuss it. What do you think?
In the prologue, in the part "Ordering of the Shire" Bilbo doesn't reveal how much of his considerable wealth he actually has...not even to "Frodo, his favouite nephew". Then, at the beginning of Chapter One, A Long Expected Party, it says Bilbo had no close friends until some of his younger cousins began to grow up, the oldest and Bilbo's favourite was Frodo. Then later on in the first chapter, the Gaffer is at The Ivy Bush and is explaining how Frodo is Bilbo's first and second cousin. Then, during the speech at The Party, Bilbo refers to Frodo as his "heir and nephew".
Now I have tried to understand the family tree at the end of ROTK and can't figure it out. What do you think?

And in the movie, Gandalf says "You don't think I'd miss your Uncle Bilbo's birthday?" Which is what got me to thinking about this. I was telling my mom that I thought they were cousins and she said no, Bilbo was Frodo's uncle. So I was stumped.
To: 2Jedismom
They are cousins (first and second cousins), but Frodo called Bilbo his uncle. Probably because Bilbo was so much older than Frodo - they were "once removed either way", you remember.

Just got back from the movie; got to see the TT trailer!
WOW!!!And we have to wait until December???
...............sigh..............
This time I was a total basket case during Boromir's death scene with Aragorn. "I would have followed you......my brother.......my captain................my king................".............My goodness. Pass the kleenex.
So many of the little things stood out more clearly this time, mainly due to the discussions I've read here on the thread; I found myself "looking for" things that I had missed before. And I found myself appreciating some of the acting even more than before; for instance the scene between Ian McKellan and Christopher Lee, when Gandalf first discovers that Saruman has gone over to the dark side, and the ensuing battle between the two, is really quite wonderful.
Oh, what a good movie. What a good STORY.
