Snickerdoodles were our son's favorite cookie. He made them in home ec class. (he was no dummy - he knew where the girls were - no shop class for him)LOL It's been 8 years since he was killed and I still make them from his hand copied recipe every Christmas.

Buttermilk Pralines 2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons margarine
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 heaping cups pecan halves
In heavy 4 1/2- to 5-quart Dutch oven, mix sugar, soda, corn syrup and buttermilk. Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, until candy thermometer registers soft-ball stage. (A cup of ice water can be used to test if at soft-ball stage. With a spoon, drop a dime-size blob into the cold water. If it will roll into a soft ball with your finger, it is ready.) Remove from heat and stir in margarine, vanilla, cinnamon and pecans. Stir until mixture starts to set up. Quickly drop spoonfuls onto foil paper that has been sprinkled heavily with salt. Makes 3 dozen.
