Does anyone have directions on how to make Christmas tree ornament cookies?
I am making them for my class and I want them to be the kind of ornaments that will last forever (I think there is a flour, salt, and water concoction).
Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what you were looking for:

Salt Dough Ornaments

1 cup water
1 cup salt
2-1/2 cups flour
1. Combine salt and 2 cups of flour. Mix in water, and work in additional flour if needed to make a smooth and workable dough.
2. Roll out 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Dip cookie cutters in flour and then press into dough. Remove excess dough and put shapes onto ungreased cookie sheet. If making ornaments, use a toothpick to make holes for string to pass through.
3. Bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes on each side, more for really thick items, less for thin items. Can also be dried at room temperature, time varies according to the thickness of the project- overnight-2 days is normal.
4. Paint and seal with a shellac or other acrylic-type sealer. To keep the salt dough well for years, do not store in a damp place. Store in boxes or well-sealed cookie tins on a bed of uncooked rice to absorb any moisture.

Not the ornament dough you were asking about but very fragrant and fun for kids:

Cinnamon Applesauce Ornament Dough

1 1/2 cups ground cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup basic white school glue

Mix all ingredients together in bowl, turn out on wax paper and knead thoroughly until smooth. Let sit at least 30 minutes.

Roll out dough between 2 sheets of wax paper. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Remember to use a straw to punch out a hole (to hang ornament with ribbon later).

Let ornaments dry--takes 3-5 days depending on size, thickness, shapes. You want to turn the ornaments over several times per day to ensure even drying. When dry you can decorate with fabric paint (like white "frosting" for a gingerbread man shape). NOT EDIBLE!!! (But smell wonderful!!)
