Independent candidate Ty Pinkins says his campaign has influenced the Mississippi Senate race by drawing votes from Republican counties.

Democrat Scott Colom is challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith in a race that could result in the biggest Senate upset of the midterms if the seat flips.

Mississippi U.S. Senate race hangs on thousands of ballots Scott Colom widens his lead over Cindy Hyde-Smith in Mississippi Senate race "I'm from the Mississippi Delta, that's the poorest area in our country, so for me having a Democrat, specifically Scott Colom, benefits the area that I grew up in," Pinkins said.

Speaking to CNN, Pinkins said over 77% of his votes came from Republican counties, pulling support away from Hyde-Smith.

"You can't assume that all of those votes would have went back to Scott Colom when the Republican has won 15 times straight in the state," Pinkins said. "I am happy we drew votes from Cindy Hyde-Smith."

CNN projects Pinkins could receive about 2% of the vote.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

In a mountain of shocking results, Mississippi's senate race was the most shocking to me.

This story explains it to very small degree, but did ANYONE expect a Democrat to receive 49% of the vote in Mississippi? The only thing I'd seen on the race was Hyde-White's dumb "let 'em eat cheaper protein" comment.

Wanting our taxes to pay for children’s health care rather than bombs to kill children overseas-how you gonna counter that? That comment was made in another state. It’s a good case for getting rid of the electoral college as our butt kicking reached deep into the red states nationwide just like illegals turning them all into border states.

Well groomed, younger, slick types seem to be their formula and we couldn’t see it in Clinton. No room for stupidity and the voters gave us Darlene Graham. Crisis management is something the rats are better at.

Things shall surely be better for the poor people of the Mississippi Delta country, with a Democrat in charge of dealing out favor from Federal largesse. It simply GUARANTEES the Delta dwellers will remain just as dirt-poor as they are now.

Democrats do not fix problems with poverty. They merely perpetuate the poverty across generations to retain their voting blocs.

Democrats do not have the least idea how to deal with the REAL reasons for poverty. Throwing money at the people affected does nothing for affordability, as the cost of goods and services will rise in proportion to the amount of money available to pay for them, and a very pernicious kind of inflation creeps in the back door.

Subsidies and “free” distribution create scarcities, which in turn creates rationing.

Beef is expensive…we have a cattle shortage. Pork, Chicken and Turkey are cheaper and readily available. Noticed all of the fast food chains have a chicken product?

Can you see the people in the Delta region though they’ve had Republicans for 15 straight elections and they’re still in the same position. Is it possible they wanted to try something different? Of course I’m not thrilled with how the results are, but maybe next time Republicans are in, they can do something to help the Delta people 15 Straight Republican wins and they’re still poor. Can you explain that?

Yes, the results in Mississippi are certainly surprising.

I was more shocked by the senate race in Florida - I thought Angie Nixon would be blown out by Ashley Moody - the race was actually much closer:

Ashley Moody: 50.87%

Angie Nixon: 47.99%

Here’s a weird fact -

Colom was nominated by PotatoJoe to a Mississippi Northern District Court. Just looking at his background - much as I’m sure I’d disagree with him on plenty, he looks pretty qualified. Cum Laude in law school. Became a prosecutor and had a sterling conviction record. Chancery court judge. No notable evidence of wokeness or etc.

Hyde-Smith “blue-slipped” him - Roger Wicker did not. Basically, the Senate judiciary on both sides has always respected “blue slips”; it’s basically an individual Senator ‘veto’ on a judicial nomination when the nominee is to a District Court in your state.

If she hadn’t blue-slipped him? He’d be a District Court judge nobody probably ever of. The D nominee would have just been a sacrificial lamb. And Hyde-Smith probably survives.

A political party’s job is not to make constituents rich, fella. It is to protect and give you opportunity. If your area cannot support your ambitions, move.
Quit the commie trash mantra of “what are you gonna give me now?”.

OK. You are correct I was a little bit ridiculous in my question but I’m still serious. What have they done in 15 terms? Did they give opportunity? Did they give safety? I don’t know. I don’t know if they have violent crime there or not I’m not sure but you’re post to me was valid.
