And most of the garden is still going, just very slowly. Like me...
Most of my Baltimore garden is still going as well. The hostas have just begun getting golden leaves, a precursor to turning brown. The panicle hydrangea's flowers have turned brown. The zucchini and cucumbers, victims of powdery mildew this year, have shut down. The red peppers seem to be in a state of stasis, growing large but still totally green.
The gaillardia is still blooming strongly, will wait to cut it back. The echinacea is still clinging to some color; browning and cut back will be soon. My formerly "dead" Nelly Moser clematis, after being cut back to the ground for clematis wilt, came roaring back and is now 3' long. Too bad it doesn't have long enough to flower this season. The most in need of major trimming are the wildflowers I planted between my 55' of roses. I want to clear out all the dead vegetation between the roses, which are still blooming. Queen Elizabeth rose doesn't seem aware that it's late fall. She is covered with gorgeous pink blooms as is Strike It Rich and a few others. I always miss my gardens, front and back yards, during the winter.
