President Donald Trump vowed Tuesday to ban the term “artificial intelligence” after lashing out at The Wall Street Journal in a Truth Social post.
Trump posted to his social media platform complaining that the the news organization had yet to adopt his preferred term, “super intelligence:”
When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, “AI/Artificial Intelligence,” in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
When asked how the government could ban a term given the Constitutionally protected right to freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment, the White House Press Office replied, “refer to the TRUTH.”
It’s unclear what banning the term “artificial intelligence” “in all relevant documents, and everything else” specifically means.
Trump began touting the phrase “super intelligence” in a poll last month on Truth Social, then proclaimed Chinese leader Xi Jingping liked the term as well.
The president ran three different polls with new names for AI: Super Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, and Supreme Intelligence.
By early October he also claimed anyone still using the term artificial intelligence was “the enemy,” even though the White House itself had been slow to make the change.
“The White House considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!” Trump had written on Truth Social.
At least one artificial intelligence expert ripped Trump for trying to use the term super intelligence.
“He’s taken a technical term which has a very clear meaning and then reused it,” said University of Toronto Professor Geoffrey Hinton. “Superintelligence means smarter than people, and has been around for at least 20 years. It’s got a very clear meaning. And now he says we’re going to call AI ‘superintelligence’. You can’t make it smarter than people just by calling it smarter than people.”

Yes, this is monumentally important... to absolutely nobody.
I suspect it’s as mundane as Musk wanting to hose the guys that bought all the AI-based domains, but if he helped Trump run cover on the Ukraine Starlink pressure, it may be a small price.
I would go with II, Imitation Intelligence.
Okay, let’s make everybody happy.
Call it SDAI : Super-Duper Artificial Intelligence.
Can somebody with his ear please inform him that the time to be testing stupid closing messages in advance of the midterm election was 6 months ago?
Change it to Trump Intelligence and call it a day.
Your choice: “super” intelligence, Senator Husted’s derriere, or a revamped golf course in DC.
The left use artificial intelligence term for an excuse to take the blame for their work.
I have opted for a 4th choice: Banging my head on my desk until the sweet fog of a concussion makes me numb to all the political malpractice going on.
✔️
I fear that a very weak verbal filter is getting weaker with each passing day.
Borrowing from George Orwell’s 1984, about calling it double-plus intelligence?
This is not what I voted for. It’s not winning either. Right now , his only message should be getting people out there to vote Republican.
The president is obssessed with renaming things, places.
This is all he’s good at, naming things. Except in this case he manages to mess that up too.
What willl happen if the wrong term is used Trump?
He seems to be against the first amendment. We knew that though when he banned the press from the White House.
Trump has lost it.
SI is Sports Illustrated....
I call it

Who cares what you call it.
If you are on double secret probation, are you really on probation?
If you write software that more effectively scours online resources for a more useful compendium of information, it’s still just software.
“Yes, this is monumentally important... to absolutely nobody.”
Agreed. Wonder if the recent Trump bombast is a planned strategy to gain undecided voters.
Anyway, “artificial” is not comparative. “Super” is comparative and suggests that the computer-powered intelligence is superior to — what — ours?
