Great, you say? Audi’s I’ve driven were great to drive if all was right on them, but any maintenance or repairs needed would be more than the average person could afford. What I’m hearing nowadays is that it would just not pay trying to build a German car here without some massive engineering & manufacturing changes.

In my opinion, AUDIs are grossly overpriced.

Good point. The Audis my children had were nice but expensive to repair.

BMW, Meercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen already have plants here.
(From Claude.ai)
Passenger vehicles
BMW, Spartanburg (Greer), South Carolina. BMW’s largest plant worldwide; builds the X-series SUVs. A battery assembly plant is going up nearby in Woodruff, SC.
Mercedes-Benz, Vance (near Tuscaloosa), Alabama. GLE, GLS, and EQ SUVs, plus a battery plant in Bibb County.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, Ladson (North Charleston), South Carolina. Sprinter and eSprinter vans.
Volkswagen, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4.
Under construction
Scout Motors (Volkswagen), Blythewood, South Carolina. Scout officially still targets initial production in 2027, but Der Spiegel reported a slip to around the middle of 2028 due to technical problems, which Scout has denied.
