One of Texas’s most prominent personal injury lawyers has endorsed state Rep. James Talarico (D) in the Lone Star State’s widely watched Senate race. Thomas J. Henry, a fixture of Texas TV ads and billboards, posted a video to the social platform X on Thursday announcing he would support Talarico’s candidacy.
“The reason I’m supporting James is I had the opportunity to meet with him in person for quite a long period of time and go over the issues that affect Texas and affect our country. And I found that James’s approach to these problems that affect Texas and our country, were balanced, straightforward and honest,” Henry said.
Supporting the Texas Democrat is a pivot for Henry, who spent more than $600,000 backing Talarico’s Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, in the GOP primary. Paxton ousted Sen. John Cornyn (R) in a May runoff with President Trump’s backing. Henry addressed his past support for Paxton in Thursday’s video, saying he thought it was time for a change from career politicians. “Now, I know some of you know that I supported Paxton in the race against Cornyn. One of the reasons I did that was because Cornyn had been in office way too long,” Henry said. “I think that politicians shouldn’t serve endless terms in the U.S. Senate.”
But Henry said he had a change of heart after meeting with Talarico, something he noted was important because Paxton has yet to accept an invitation to debate.
“I was confident that meeting James Talarico would be important, and that meeting was extremely valuable because it taught me the values Talarico has,” Henry said. “Respect, fairness, safety, good economics for Texas and our country and a balanced approach to all the issues.” Henry’s endorsement comes just a day after another high-profile Texas name backed Talarico. Former President George W. Bush’s brother, Neil, shared on social media Tuesday that he voted for the young state representative for the Texas Senate seat.
Democrats have not won a Senate seat in the Lone Star State since former President Reagan was in office.
The Texas Senate race is close, though Talarico has led in most polls. Nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ, a partner of The Hill, gives the Democrat a 57 percent chance of defeating Paxton.

He wants to put that bottom over the top.
i dont believe a word to this story. You dont spend 600,000 helping promote a candidate only to meet the exact opposite type person and switch sides. Not uying it.
He spent $600K backing him in the primary against John Cornyn. He might have reasoned that Paxton would be easier to beat in the general election.
Not an odd story at all. Cornyn was a certainty for reelection. Thus, this lawyer backed Paxton as the weaker of the two for the general election. That lawyer is a democrat.
since former President Reagan was in officeHow as a former President ever in office? (Trump or Cleveland, perhaps.)
“I had the opportunity to meet with him in person for quite a long period of time “
what like an hour or so?
the lawyer isn’t gonna take much time, unless he is gonna get some thing out of the deal.
Blackmailed maybe?
Maybe they have pics of this guy attending some of TalaFREAKOs drag show stops.
So, I guess Transrico has the ambulance chaser vote. He still needs the trip and slip guys.
Blackmail my thought, also.
Talk is cheap.
Paxton has taken action.
This guy got rolled.
What part of Talafreako platform does he like?
The men in womens bathrooms part?
the schools can sex change your kids without parents knowing part?
The men in girls sports part?
the taking trans kids away from their parents part?
the stacking the supreme court part?
the making DC and Puerto Rico states part to stack the Senate?
the impeach Trump part?
Fine. Just keep the money.
The SHill speakth yet again.
Another lawyer playing both sides of the aisle.
Will say or do anything to gain power/money/sex.
And we listen to them why?
I think the lawyer believed that when he gave the money. I question the idea that a guy who spent 120 million to come in second twice was going to be the better candidate in the general.
>”I found that James’s approach to these problems that affect Texas and our country, were balanced, straightforward and honest”. Henry said he had a change of heart after meeting with Talarico, something he noted was important because Paxton has yet to accept an invitation to debate.<
Does Talarico’s ‘approach’ have any similarity to his voting record? As for not accepting a debate invitation something tells me the democrat would eat him up. They are the big talkers and an older Paxton would not have that thinking on his feet appeal to younger voters. AOC did the same with her primary opponent. It was generational. Our ‘older’ incumbents should run in blue states-think Maine/Wisconsin(Johnson). Red state senate geezers on our side need to be made an offer they can’t refuse.
“ And I found that James’s approach to these problems that affect Texas and our country, were balanced, straightforward and honest,” Henry said.”
I always find it humorous that people think a person with a law degree is some how smarter than most. I wonder how long a manager would last if he told the team owner he hired a hitter because he said he could hit .500, even though he had never hit over .150?
I he owns a lot of stuff in Texas that will get burned and trashed after the dems open the border again.
