Put bluntly, “I don’t want this child”
National Right to Life ^ | Oct 19, 2026 | Dave Andrusko

On Mondays, it is a habit of mine to retrace examples of both the best and the worst in human behavior. I will happily write about the best later today. First, however, an example of the depths to which the human heart can sink.

Now, to be sure, the willingness of pro-abortionists to say almost anything is not news to pro-lifers. But looking back, a 776-word-long New York Times op-ed by Susan Heath was unusually cavalier/ blunt/heartless, even by their lowly standards.

Thinking about the “attacks on a woman’s right to choose,” Heath told her readers, “It wasn’t always like this.”

She nostalgically yearned for the “good old days” of 1978—five years after Roe v. Wade was decided! She was then 38. Heath already had four sons and she’s “about two and a half months pregnant.”

Five words summarize where she was at: “I don’t want this child.”

Give Heath credit. None of the usual diversionary stuff.

She wrote that little babies are cute—indeed, “I delight in newborn babies with their delicate weightlessness, the curl of their small fingers around my thumb.” But “the best thing about them now is that they belong to other people. I don’t want to bear them, feed them, bring them up, be responsible for them.”

Put more straightforwardly, she tells us, “I’ve got other things to do,” adding later by way of further clarification, she was “on a different track now.”

And in those “good old days,” she got back on track by zipping down to the non-judgmental, protestor-free Planned Parenthood clinic. There Heath has the abortion which is

“really not so bad; in fact it’s not as invasive as going for monthly checkups when you’re pregnant. They’re kind, they tuck me up under a blanket and say my husband can pick me up soon and take me home. I’m fine.”

She gratefully sends PPFA a donation of several hundred dollars, and why not?

“Having the abortion released me from the burden of the added mothering I could no longer undertake and allowed me to do the best mothering I could.”

This almost-conclusion is followed by two paragraphs that speak volumes.

“Two years later, I’m driving upstate by myself. I look down and think that if I hadn’t had the abortion, there would be a baby seat next to me with a small child in it, resting comfortably, knowing it would always be safe because I was in charge. It might be a girl — I would have liked to have a daughter in the family mix.

Whatever she means by that, she takes it all back in the next paragraph:

“But I’m not grieving over the absence; I don’t have and never have had a single qualm about not bringing that child into the world. I know many women who have grieved greatly over the children they decided not to have, and I am thankful to have been spared that agonizing sadness of guilt and regret. I also know many women who, like me, have felt only gratitude and relief at having been able to take control over their lives safely and legally.”

I remember thinking that Heath was tone-deaf to the meaning of her own words.

If she had not aborted her baby (which she did without “that agonizing sadness of guilt and relief”), the child would have been “[R]esting comfortably, knowing it would always be safe because I was in charge.”

But having said that, Heath assures us she feels only “gratitude and relief” for being able to “take control” of her life.

Exactly how did she accomplish that? By taking control of –ending–the baby’s life.

And unlike her mother, the baby will never have “other things to do.”

And now women are saying the same thing AFTER birth and killing them, while many women excuse this.

ABORTION - The Left sells the lie that both sex and abortion are something women are forced into, in order to blame everyone other than the women themselves for their actions.

The abortion rate today is similar to the infant mortality rate of the past. Women have aborted an eighth of the world population.

Women fight so hard for abortion because it is in line with women's instincts: Women abort the children of men they don't want to mate with. She'll keep the baby of Chad, Pookie, or Ray Ray because she considers them alpha males but will abort the baby of Brad the friendzone orbiter, boyfriend, or husband.

A surprising number of men find out that they're raising children that are not their own. Many U.S. States have assumed parentage and statutes of limitations regarding paternity testing. Many states require informed consent of all parties, including children old enough to understand the implications, before the testing is conducted. In some entire countries such as Germany and France, DNA testing is outright illegal because their socialist governments know the truth will collapse the social order.

I can remember a Stevie Nicks quote about there not being a Fleetwood Mac had she brought her pregnancy to term. The thing is there WAS a Fleetwood Mac before she joined the group. Second, would the world survive without their music? It’s not like the music wouldn’t get written. Last, I can only think of the time it’s founder referred to the music as ‘mental mush’. These people think too highly of themselves.

Uma Thurman is another.

Jennifer is a Junior Marketing Analyst. She aborts her baby, so she can one day be a Senior Marketing Analyst.

It’s just so mind-boggling that these women now brag about killing their unborn children.

God help us.

If the NYT were an honest journalistic enterprise, they would ave interviewed her four surviving sons and asked them what they thought of their mother who had one of their siblings killed. Suspect there is much more to this story beyond the pathetic narcissism expressed in the propagandist essay.

Methinks the ones who brag the most, are the ones who regret it the most, and brag as a coping mechanism.

She could have given that baby up for adoption and spared herself the entire "burden" of raising that child. Just a few months of pregnancy, a delivery, and she never has to see that baby again..

If that is too much sacrifice to preserve the life of another human being, not to mention giving a baby to a couple that desperately wants one, then you are a morally twisted goblin.

Hmmm...my recollection is that we had birth control back then.

"We" did have contraception back then ... and despite propaganda to the contrary, contraceptive devices and substances do at times fail. For the contraceptively minded, abortion is the backstop.

Don't engage in baby-making activities unless you're willing to raise the consequences to responsible adulthood.

My understanding is the the chance of getting pregnant is already pretty low so adding birth control on top of that makes it very difficult.

My guess is that she was riding the baloney pony bareback because thinking was hard.

So she thinks this is a nice “legal” way to ease her possible problems. Well, there is always God’s Law & I think he sees it differently. Pretty sure she didn’t get pregnant all by herself, so the time to consider what she was saving herself from should have been before becoming pregnant, not after.
