Jalen Hurts expected to miss season Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback's lungs, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hurts will undergo treatment involving blood thinners that is expected to sideline the three-time Pro Bowler for at least three months, sources informed of the diagnosis told Rapoport and Schefter.
Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles released a statement Monday detailing Hurts' condition. Lynn and the Eagles said Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning a blood clot traveled from his legs to his lungs.
Hurts is "clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations," according to the statement, but will not be allowed to participate in football activities while on anticoagulation medication.
"Jalen's prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery," the statement said. "We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects."
Hurts was initially diagnosed with what was described as a superficial blood clot in his calf. That diagnosis occurred in London before the Eagles' Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Hurts played in that game -- a 19-17 loss for the Eagles -- despite the initial diagnosis, and attempted 40 passes.
Sources told Rapoport that Hurts was in the hospital in London until 4 a.m. on the morning of the game. He did not sleep the night before the game because he was told that sleeping posed health risks associated with the clot, according to sources.
Hurts' clot is considered to be "provoked" -- meaning a favorable prognosis with treatment and care -- because he was cleated in his calf, sources told Rapoport.
The Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve two days ago after consultations with numerous doctors and experts. Hurts already had been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, but the Eagles waited to make the roster move until after consulting with medical experts, according to sources.
Tanner McKee started in Hurts' place Sunday, completing 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia's 25-14 home loss to Carolina.

He’s got money, won rings in both college and pro, nothing left to prove.
His fellow Bama QB teammate needs to do the same.
Sitting on an airplane flight to London probably exacerbated the DVT. Whenever I fly, I walk around the cabin at least once an hour. We went to Germany this summer and Seattle-Frankfurt required lots of walking!
I didn’t know a blow to your calf could cause a DVT. Turns out repeated hits from tennis rackets on the calf can cause that, too.
I got a pulmonary embolism July 2024 that the docs think was “provoked” by COVID (3 bouts) or the mRNA shots. I am on lifelong blood thinners. Hope he gets off the medication.
Maybe the NFL will re-evaluate having all these stupid overseas games.
When we landed in Dublin August 21, 2025 we expected to see all things Irish. Instead, we got to see an American football parade through downtown. Kansas State and Iowa State were playing there that weekend. It was rather weird!
Especially the game upcoming this weekend, the games is scheduled to be played in Paris, what timing, dropping two NFL teams into a potential war zone, if something happens to someone on either team, it will be on the NFL for not cancelling the game and playing it in the US.
Imagine being a Jaguars fan with all the games played in London.
I get it the stadium is being renovated, but they could just as easily play those games in Orlando.
Too bad for the Eagles and their fans. All the best for Jalen Hurts and a full recovery.
After the taxpayers of Duval Country spend a billion on a renovating the stadium, the least the Jaguars could do is play all their home games in town versus London.
Darn right. Stop the Globalism.
The Jaguars owner is from London. But I get your point
Sorry about his health but good riddance to him as far as sports go.
He also owns Fulham, the Premier League Club.
This is unfortunate for Hurts but exciting for me. My former neighbor and buddy Brianโs kid is now the number 2 quarterback for the Eagles. That kid is a real gamer. Really excited for him.
I bet it’s because he got the Jab.
I’m surprised it took this long to bring up.. (post 5 doesn’t count, that was personal)
They are part of the plan for international expansion.
