Using out of state money, radical pro-abortion groups have raised more than $25.7 million to defeat a proposed constitutional amendment that would protect babies from abortion in Missouri.
Stop the Ban, the campaign opposing Amendment 3, has collected the sum as of Thursday, according to disclosure reports. The Fairness Project, a Washington, D.C.-based group, has contributed nearly $12 million of that total.
By contrast, Her Health, Her Future PAC, the main group supporting Amendment 3, has raised $5.3 million, including a $2.9 million donation from a new Missouri-based nonprofit that doubled the campaign’s cash on hand.
If approved by voters in November, Amendment 3 would repeal the 2024 pro-abortion measure that barely won with 51.6 percent of the vote after pro-abortion extremists flooded TV and Internet with false ads lying about the abortion ban.
Amendment 3 would begin the process of protecting babies from abortions and also stop the mutilation of children with trans drugs and surgeries. It would allow the state legislature to pass more pro-life laws to protect babies.
James Lawson, a campaign adviser for Her Health, Her said the new nonprofit was formed to protect Missouri donors who wanted to support the pro-life effort “without putting a target on their backs.” He stated that “99%” of funding across the nonprofit and the PAC is from Missourians and that “The real concern is outside money attempting to influence Missouri’s constitution.”
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has described the 2024 abortion measure as extreme.
“Two years ago, the pro-abortion forces passed the most extreme measure. It made abortion legal right up until the moment of birth. It had absolutely no safeguards for the health of the mother, and certainly not for the safety of the baby,” she said.
Hanaway added that Amendment 3 “is not a total ban. There are exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. It also allows the legislature to put in place health and safety measures to protect the unborn and the woman going to have any one of these procedures. I know a lot of people would like to have a total ban, but this will save millions of babies of lives if we can get it passed.”
Catholic bishops in Missouri have urged voters to approve the amendment.
In a letter, they wrote, “Brothers and sisters in Christ, we cannot be indifferent when our own state constitution fails to safeguard those who most need its protection. We urge you to pray and fast, to speak with your family and friends, and to continue working to pass Amendment 3. Stand with the unborn child who cannot speak for himself or herself.”
Stop the Ban has spent about $5.9 million on television and radio ads, while Her Health, Her Future has spent about $1.2 million. Missouri Right to Life PAC has raised at least $800,000 in support of the amendment. Polling has shown a close race, meaning every pro-life vote is needed to save babies now and expand pro-life laws to save more babies in the future.
