The female victim survived the attack and was able to report the crime to the police.
According to reports from WQAD News, the event unfolded as part of a staged
plot:
• The Shooting and Escape: On October 8, 2012, the woman and Williams were
taken to a field near a Flying J travel center in northwest Davenport, where they
were assaulted and shot at. Despite being shot in the leg, the woman managed
to walk into the Flying J to report the incident and ask for help.
• The Staged Plot: Initially, she told police she believed the attackers had
kidnapped Williams alongside her. However, police found Williams a short time

While Williams successfully fled and eluded capture for nearly 14 years, one of
his co-conspirators, Jeremy Garvin, was tried in Iowa and found guilty of
kidnapping, arson, willful injury, and conspiracy in August 2013.later walking
nearby with duct tape on him and no apparent injuries. Investigators quickly
determined that Williams had actually hired three other men to fake his own
kidnapping because he wanted to break up with her.
• The Arson Attack: In addition to the field assault, Williams and his co-
conspirators went to the home of the victim’s new boyfriend, poured gasoline
around the house, and set it on fire. Five people inside the house managed to
escape unharmed.
