It’s COLUMBUS DAY!

.......Many Mexicans observe October 12 as Columbus Day, or Day of the Race (Día de la Raza) in remembrance of when Christopher Columbus came to the Americas......
I was always under the impression that those Mexicans (or rather, usually Mexican-American activists) who talk about or refer to themselves as "La Raza" like to emphasize their "indigenous" American-Indian ancestry and characterize Spaniards as their oppressors, even if they have some Spanish ancestry. In contrast, the upper classes of Mexico and other Latin American countries like to emphasize their Spanish ancestry and downplay their Amerindian ancestry.
