My grandfather used to spit nails every time I would bring up John Wayne, a favorite actor of mine when I was a child. He’d launch into the tirade that John Wayne was a horrible person for accepting government payments for not growing potatoes. I’d often playfully goad him by asking what do you think of some Democrat politician. He’d respond, “He’s a G-damned Democrat!” They don’t make men like my grandfather anymore.
