The first woman sentenced to death in Tennessee in 200 years said she is “at peace” before her rare execution — as the state’s governor declined to get involved in her last-ditch bid for clemency.
“Whether my clemency is granted or not, I am at peace,” convicted murderer Christa Pike wrote in a letter to NBC News before learning that Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee would not grant the condemned killer clemency.
“I am not afraid to die,” the killer wrote to the outlet. “I’m only nervous about the process.”
Pike, 50, is slated to be executed on Wednesday by lethal injection, the first time the state will put a woman to death in more than two centuries.
She was just 18 when she lured fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer, 19, to an isolated spot on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville and tortured her to death in a jealous rage with the help of her boyfriend on Jan. 12, 1995.

Hope you got your things together, hope you are quite prepared to die, looks like we’re in for nasty weather, one eye is taken for an eye.
Well, the idea of a prison execution might be preferable to a death by some of the inmates. You would have more time to worry about just when it was going to happen.
oh I like how Japan handles that.
East TN is on Eastern time. Middle & West TN are on Central time.
So now they are comparing the horrible death of the victim to what the guilty party would have to face? Makes little sense to me. The murder need never to have happened. The penalty for having committed that murder was pretty much a certainty after the fact.
NY hasn’t had an execution since the last old sparky zap in 1963. We do not get those protesters here, they have moved on to protesting the weather and now Data Centers.
Several years ago, I saw a documentary about executions, listing methods used by various countries. If I recall correctly, it said that in the old Soviet Union, the perp was given one appeal, and if the appeal was denied, execution took place no more than 30 days later. Someone else on the thread may have more info on the veracity of that segment.
For horrific crimes like this one, I can’t say I’d object to it.
Yth circuit has Stayed the execution
6th circuit
Sigh. Now there’s a last minute stay. Arghhhhh!
If the US Supreme Court already rejected her appeal how does a lower court get to override them?
Now 50 then 18.
That means she spend thirty two years on death row!
Why so long?

A federal appeals court Wednesday morning halted the execution of the lone woman on Tennessee’s death row about an hour before it was scheduled to be carried out.
In a last-minute decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth District said it needed to review claims that Christa Pike’s legal team made in a bid to stop her execution.
“The interests of justice and the finality of Pike’s impending execution compel the entry of a short stay of execution in order to properly analyze the parties’ fully briefed arguments and resolve the issues on the merits,” the court said.
“So now they are comparing the horrible death of the victim to what the guilty party would have to face?”
Not “they”. I am comparing it. I retrieved the story of what this woman did and then followed it with an excerpt from the article where her lawyer whines about the lethal injection trauma.
Her: I'm at peace.
State: Your execution has been postponed.
Her: You're not helping my peace.
Tortured her to death in a jealous rage with the help of her boyfriend.
Wonder what one will turn on the other first bound to happen being that crazy.
