Last week Tim talked with Jesse Lehrich, who walked through a scenario where the D’s wind up with 54 Senate seats a few weeks from now.

That’s crazy. But not as crazy as it sounds. There is a path. All Dems have to do is run the table on the Big 5 races,1 win a gettable Iowa, and then luck into Kansas. Hell, if you want an even bigger hit of the dragon, you can get to 56 seats if there’s a backlash to Darline Graham in South Carolina and Dan Osborn overperforms in Nebraska.
What would Democrats do with 56 senators?
This would be a caucus with instantly vulnerable freshmen in Alaska and Texas. The South Carolina senator would be an assumed one-termer. There would be an independent from a red state. And John Fetterman.
Suddenly that 56-seat best-case scenario looks awfully soft.

It is not as if Iran has not plotted for and called for the destruction of the United States for 47 years.
It is not as if Iran in their ideology consistently calls the United States the “Great Satan” and Israel the “little Satan”.
It is not as if they had enough enriched uranium for a few nuclear bombs.
If a country declares they wish to destroy you, year, after year after decade after decade... Believe them.
Why?
The US has *easily* benefitted more from trade with Canada than they have from us. Just overlay the GDP, per capita income, or any other national metric.
And we *liked each other*. Two nations - sharing the longest undefended border on the planet - that get along, share a lot of common culture, and had a longstanding mutually beneficial trade relationship.
Even if you’re a collectivist-oriented protectionist striving for some Ceaușescu or Kim family or Albanian Hoxha crap — even those nutters didn’t pick a fight with an advantageous trading partner.

True. It wasn’t discussed until Trump decided to make it a thing on the campaign Trail by promising to release every page of the Epstein file. after that, it was off to the races.
Their GDP is less than most states. We don’t need their oil, lumber or syrup. Alaska has more oil.

I understand many people who claim to be conservatives have decided to join the socialists and agree to government-controlled trade, but I still disagree.
Countries do not trade; people and freely associated/vested companies do. Unless you’re a communist state where the government determines what you ‘trade’. Ask the USSR how that turned out.
So what do “we” get? A country where you get to exist at the very top of the free market totem pole and succeed or fail on your own merits.
