That is an important point. Other posters here have said the country deserves nice things. Well, they have a point too.
But consider a family that is deeply in debt. Perhaps they should forgo borrowing even more money to build a fancy pool in their back yard, and instead try to pay down their debt a little.
Disclaimer: I just looked it up. It is unclear where the money to build this arch will come from. But most sources say it will probably be a combination of federal funds and private donations. It would be nice if we had more clarity about this.

Hmm… I’ve given it a bit more thought. It’s probably better to say that government spending is out of control. So it would be nice to see those folks at least try to cut back on unnecessary expenditures.
