Iran refines crude oil into gasoline at major domestic facilities across the country rather than pumping raw crude directly into vehicles.
Key Refineries in IranIran has roughly nine to twelve primary crude oil and gas-condensate refineries that process fuel for domestic use. The largest and most important locations include:Abadan Refinery Located in Khuzestan Province, it is one of the oldest and largest refining complexes in the world, processing over 400,000 barrels per day.
Isfahan Refinery in central Iran (Isfahan Province), it is a major producer of domestic gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Bandar Abbas Refinery Located near the Strait of Hormuz in Hormozgan Province, it handles a large share of regional and national fuel processing.
Other Regional Refineries-——Facilities in Tehran, Arak, Tabriz, Shiraz, Kermanshah, and Lavan Island also refine petroleum for local distribution.Despite these large facilities, Iran’s domestic refining capacity historically struggles to fully keep pace with high local consumption, leading the country to occasionally supplement its supply through imports or face localized shortages.
And under current conditons they refine it and sell it to the populus at the pump for eleven cents a gallon.
