While flying in the “Golden Age” of air travel looks nice, I’d pass. Have a feeling that travel took a lot longer, the planes were a lot less safe, and you felt the weather bumps and bad air a lot more.

A: 15 decibel reduction and 12 decibel reduction

Modern jets are significantly quieter than those from the 1950s. Compared to the first jet aircraft, modern aircraft have been reduced by 97% on departure and 94% on arrival, resulting in a 15 decibel reduction and 12 decibel reduction, respectively. This dramatic reduction is primarily due to the transition from low-bypass to high-bypass turbofan engines, which move more air around the engine core rather than through it, significantly muffling the exhaust noise. Additionally, the use of hush kits and liners helps absorb sound waves.

They are 85% quieter in the cruise phase (level flight).

How quiet was it in the jets that I posted about in the post you responded to?

I flew in those and don’t remember it being noisy, in fact in my lifetime I never ran into a loud commercial jet.

The modern jet didn’t really become ubiquitous until the 1960s. Pan Am started flying the B707 in Oct. 1958. There were very few passenger jets until the 1960’s. Don’t forget, Air Force One was a variation of the 707 until the 1990s.
