And there is no doubt coming from me on that. But our laws, the ones the citizens put in or allowed to be there, contain the reasonable doubt defence that includes showing that the prosecution’s proof must be so strong that no sensible person would have a logical reason to doubt the defendant’s guilt for any reason within the law. In an insanity defense, the defendant admits the action but asserts a lack of culpability based on mental illness. And since I haven’t read here any of the freeper entering this thread were either at the trial or at the scene, I have to assume you are making a judgement call based upon what you read.
We do have a certain amount of facts:
She did kill the kids immediately following it with attempted suicide.
Early Antidepressant Use: While in nursing school following her 2012 college graduation, she was prescribed the antidepressants Prozac and Wellbutrin.
First Child (December 2017): Gave birth to her daughter Cora; court documents note she experienced “some anxiety” after this pregnancy.
Second Child (September 2019): Gave birth to her son Dawson; she developed a higher degree of anxiety and was offered Zoloft, which she declined at the time.
Gave birth to her third child, Callan. Fall 2022: Struggled significantly with severe postpartum anxiety, insomnia, and “brain fog”. Testimony showed she was prescribed roughly 13 different psychiatric medications across multiple providers in a short span (including Zoloft, Ativan, and other antidepressants/antipsychotics) without complete coordination or record-sharing among her clinicians.
January 2023: Experienced a worsening mental health crisis, which included a multi-day stay at an inpatient/locked-ward facility (McLean Hospital) shortly before the tragedy.
Expert witnesses and defense attorneys argued she was suffering from undiagnosed bipolar disorder and severe postpartum psychosis, experiencing auditory hallucinations and command delusions....
“Dr. Jennifer Tufts told jurors she did not have or seek records from Clancy’s recent outpatient psychiatric treatment and trusted that Clancy would be candid and disclose any information relevant to her treatment during their 14 telehealth sessions — the last of which took place Jan. 23, 2023, one day before prosecutors say Clancy strangled her children and attempted to take her own life.”
It all comes down to following the law. If society is not going to follow the laws on the books they put in or allowed to be in, then we are no different than the third world countries and have no recourse for any law. Might as well be back in the stone age. And who do you blame? Why not the medical teams that supposedly treated her and gave her enough medication to drop a rhino with nothing other than the word of a person they say is mentally ill as to who treated her and why they perscribed medication and should have alerted social services to investigate the possibilities? That’s their job. How about the father that lived with her and was aware of her problem illness? How many people knew this was happening?
This is a situation where the gun is being trialed and the failure of the system allowed it to happen not doing what they should have done. You euthanize an animal when it no longer is living a quality life and is suffering. Humans fall under a different catagory for that and in many cases are not within that level of scope. So the question is are we executing a person for punishment or to create a scare into others doing a crime using euthanasia or punishment? I would like to think those on top of the food chain (humans) could know the difference.
