Trump Admin Drafts Policy to Let Married Stay-at-Home Parents Collect Child-Care Aid Instead of Paying Strangers to Raise Their Kids (at day care center)

The Trump administration is drafting a Health and Human Services policy that would, for the first time, let a married parent who stays home with the children collect federal child-care money that Washington has spent thirty years routing almost exclusively to day-care centers.

The New York Times, citing people familiar with the talks and a draft document, reports the change is a priority for Vice President JD Vance and would tap the Child Care and Development Fund, the 1990s program built to help low-income parents pay for care so they could work or go to school.

Typical aid runs about $9,000 per child a year.

Under the draft, a married couple in certain income brackets could use that assistance for “parent-based childcare,” meaning one spouse stays home while the other works at least 35 hours a week.

It will also decrease child care companies.

My snowbird neighbors have a son who got married and now has two children. His wife is a nurse. She works hours offset from his so they can do without paid childcare.

so, is trump angling for the somali vote?

this could cut off all their day care centers’ money.

this could cut the overall cost of day care by sending it to actual homes with chilrrun

but, will the birth rate go up in the migrant communities?

“Under the draft, a married couple in certain income brackets could use that assistance for “parent-based childcare,” meaning one spouse stays home while the other works at least 35 hours a week.”

But my husband only gets 30 hours a week.

The construction business is in a recession.

Expect the safeguards to fall quickly.

The people who tend to truly need paid childcare tend to work weekday 9-5 jobs.

Offices could stay open seven days a week and moms could go on 4/3&3/4 schedules.

Sunday is no longer commonly held sacred.

“...Washington has spent thirty years routing almost exclusively to day-care centers...”

We shouldn’t be doing that. I didn’t create the child, I bear no reponsibility other than the same lawlessness I am promised for my child’s actions, and I am not alleviated of my responsbility to keep a job because I wanted to play tickle and scratch. Not my monkey.

Perhaps women could be allowed to get refunds of 1040 income tax going back as far as ten years, as much as $9,000/year, and for as much as $40,000, for as many as two children.

Women wouldn’t have to be married. There would be no need to verify 35 hours of work.

Welfare benefits have to be given to so-called “refugees” by treaty. Tax refunds don’t. Mom would have earned the money she would be getting back - it would not be welfare.

I was sick as a dog yesterday, and slept a lot, and woke up feeling pretty fine. Matches my looks. /rimshot

Anyway, I do apologize for the volume today, the weekend postings were higher than they'd been lately.

This is actually the second topic about this, but the first one was a TDS sob story.

Bad, bad idea.

Are they also going to pay me for mowing my own lawn and fixing my leaky toilet?

We are paying people to stay home? Isn’t that what welfare does? Stupid idea!

Come on now. Trump is only responsible for a measely 1/5 of the $40T national debt. You know how he likes to go big.

I remember welfare kids when I was growing up that had huge blocks of cheese, butter, and cans of grain. And food stamps were actual stamps.

more government handouts to abuse ...

After reading through the posts on this thread, I realize the majority of posters don't recognize socialism when they see it. Scary.
