Your point concerning national security is well taken. AfD is o.k. with much of the CDU’s agenda for national security. But, can AfD be trusted with secrets given the sympathy expressed by many members for Putin and suspicion that Russia is funding or has funded AfD in some way.
In my simple way of thinking, this concern (secrets) suggests that AfD offer CDU a ministry-level position that allows it (CDU) access to secrets, keeping AfD out of the loop while being advised by this minister as this may be needed for state policy.
I think this kind of arrangement could be part of coalition talks between it and the Left Party or Sahra Wagenknecht, assuming either qualifies for the state legislature, should the CDU spurn AfD and the Free Democrats not qualify.
