No one runs out of space—everyone runs out of time

In his day, Christ rebuked both the people and the religious leaders for having a total lack of discernment.

“The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” Mt. 16:1-3

NASA just sent up a rocket with a telescope that can jump through technical hoops. They hope that it will explain or give new insight into dark matter. They think it can send digital replies back to Earth more than the Hubble or any other attempt by man to map out the universe. Yet here on Earth, it still seems we can’t see beyond our noses to discern the signs of the times.

Dealing with prophecy has a couple of helps connected to it: first, we are only told to proclaim it. We’re not asked to prove it. Time proves everything.

Secondly, we are given a long list of precursors, signs, and indicators of when the time is that time will be no more. An ordinary news outlet can provide us with most of what we need.

I generally tell my fellow boomers that we have arrived at 1969 again.

There were two prophetic events that year. One was that a man walked on the moon. the other was woodstock. they prophecied two different futures.

Boomers have lived in the woodstock future.

But high school and college students will live in the moon landing future.

(the woodstock future will still be there—as the moon landing has always been there. but woodstock will be crushed for a time.)

In 1970 the liberal columnist Stewart Alsop identified three "nations" that dominated American culture: the Black Nation, consisting of black nationalists and the radical wing of the civil rights movement, the Woodstock Nation, made up of hippies, student protesters, anti-Vietnam War activists and the like, and the Wallace Nation, comprised of working-class and lower middle-class whites who were stimulated by Alabama governor George Wallace, a populist Democrat. Richard Nixon called the latter constituency the Silent Majority and it was also part of what Richard Scammon and Ben Wattenberg called the Real Majority. Scammon and Wattenberg, who were Democrats, argued in their 1970 book The Real Majority that this voting bloc was typified by a 47-year-old wife of a machinist in Dayton, Ohio, and that winning her vote was the key to getting a Democrat back into the White House.

Which explains how they created the image of a “good Christian Southerner” who deep down was a Marxist, in the form of Jimmy Carter.

Nixon won that 47-year-old housewife’s vote and cruised to victory in 1972. Although the Watergate scandal, a divided GOP and a surge in pride in the Old Confederacy briefly won back the White House for the Dems, the coalition that Nixon put together sustained Reagan and Bush 41 until it was shattered when Bush turned his back on the Reagan Revolution and Ross Perot split the vote.
