This thread was about Elon Musk predicting 1 billion humanoid robots, if that comes true and the robots can be manufactured to work in a factory environment, the combination of robots, AI and their ability to be trained will IMO create entirely new industries and potentially bring back old industries that were offshored primarily because of labor costs.
These industries won’t require as many people as previously but there will so many of them it will more than make up the difference.

The sooner they get here, the better. I could use a non-complaining, no backtalk assistant who is always there and only needs electricity to be an AI proxy for answering questions, and get, hold and carry stuff around for me. Maybe even answer the door or walk out to the end of the driveway with its built-in infrared camera so I can see what’s going on in the dark without having to go out there or sending the dog out into a dangerous situation with wildlife.
It will happen whether you like it or not.

So, more people able to work put out of work and the taxpayer gets to support them. Not everybody can be a white-collar or skilled labor worker. The world you describe doesn’t exist and never will.
Better yet when we are all not working where will taxes come from and where will the government turn to make up the shortfall? Who/what will be your police force and who will issue their marching orders? Enjoy your 8x8 cinder block house because nobody will afford a house.

That’s exactly right. A smart society would plan for those folks. But too often it’s “Let them eat cake” stuff instead.
One idea would be to get serious about teaching the trades in high school. I’m told that’s making a comeback of sorts. But it’s not nearly enough. Too many kids are still being shoved into an advanced algebra class when then should be in a plumbing class.
PS I taught advanced algebra for a number of years. Important for kids wanting to go into engineering, chemistry, and such. But not so much for everyone else.

LOL, you brought back a lot of memories...like the time when one of my uncles was playing touch football and ran into a tree full force. He complained that his leg was broken, and Grandpa said, “we’ll see about that.” He helped him up and then told him to stand on that leg. My other uncle heard him screaming from 4 blocks away. “Yup, it’s broken, let’s go to the hospital.” LOLOLOLOL!
I work with AI every day in software engineering (30+ years now), it is not that smart. I correct its crap half the time I use it.
Yeah, one big corporation like Amazon that kills all the others, just like in the movie WALL-E. No thanks. No competition. Only you buy this or do without.
So, you want a police force that has no human input just what your overlords tell it? Enjoy your self-made prison.
