I can remember that it took months to get film back from the processing lab at that time. Patterson sent the film to his brother-in-law in Yakima, WA to get it processed. (There was no Internet at the time to find an address to ship the film you know?) Nothing about shooting a roll of film in late October of 1967 and not getting it back from the processing lab until 1968 is that unusual. It wasn't like they had 1 hour Kodachrome II film processing labs out in Willow Creek, CA at the time. Maybe you think he should have tried processing the film himself to get it done faster?

I've seen Gimlin interviewed. He never changed his story about what he saw or the film being real, and he was subjected to ridicule over the claim. He was just a simple honest cowboy IMHO. The copyright on the film wasn't his. He never made any money from it. So why should he lie about anything?
