People in blue states buy stuff too.

They do. But Buc-cee's has a business model that work for them. They are certainly making money. It now becomes part of the mystique.

As long as a would-be competitor doesn't use a furry rodent as a mascot, or has a name that sounds like Buc-cee's, there is a business opportunity for somebody.

Keep in mind, the Buc-cee's concept works best in areas where people travel long stretches of highway, and so the concept won't work very well in the northeast.

The only sad part is that states like Illinois and Pennsylvania would really benefit from a Buc-cee's in the conservative rural areas. However, I think Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio might be conservative enough to merit a Buc-cee's. I could see one just off the Ohio Turnpike doing bang-up business.

There are parts of California (I-5, I-580, I-205, and State Highway 99 for example) that are used for long haul trucking. Seems like they could use a place like this. Since California is considered liberal, they will not locate here.

I don’t expect Buc-ee’s in San Francisco or Los Angeles of course.

Almost 20 million people live along I-35 and I-45 in Texas between DFW-San Antonio and DFW-Houston.

That’s their bread and butter.
