Conor Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was placed on Russia's wanted list over allegations he fought as a mercenary for Ukraine. Kennedy, 32, could face seven to 10 years in prison if convicted in Russia. "When I heard about Ukraine's International Legion, I went to the embassy to enlist the next day,"
Conor Kennedy spent about 2½ months in Ukraine before returning to the United States and resuming his law studies at Georgetown University.

Maybe he’s a wannabe George Orwell when he wrote Homage to Catalonia fighting in the Spanish Civil War.
It could be the hunger for adventure. 40 years ago, I often heard of guys ‘thinking about’ joining the French Foreign Legion. I don’t hear much about that anymore.
Some young people seek a very different environment than the safe, predictable and quiet book lined halls of college, once they have been set free by graduation or a decision to drop out.
I’m not taking sides here on Ukraine or Russia.
I’m only saying this may be the main reason this young Kennedy sent himself all the way over there voluntarily.
Good for him, no one will ever be able to take that adventure from him.
Pat Tillman did it out of patriotism. It got himself killed by his own men.
When I was in law school, students would post (by thumbtacking to a cork notice board) job applications at McDonalds, or for beauty or truck driving school, to illustrate the career options if you flunked out.
The best was a letter on gold embossed stationery, from the French Military Attaché, setting out the requirements for enlisting in the French Foreign Legion.
As luck would have it, the guy who posted it flunked out.
Adventuring has to be risky or it is hardly being adventurous, do you think Tilman did the wrong thing, or that the mountain climber who dies shouldn’t have done those things?
Good for him,

Vlad has eliminated over 10,000 foreign nationals fighting in Ukraine. That said, I hope he survives, his stories will validate much our western MSM doesn’t report.
You have no credibility when it comes to data and especially regarding the Russian/North Korean invasion in Europe.
Another ‘if all else fails’ kind of choice back then was to join the Peace Corps.
Mormon youth are often sent on similar missions in 3rd world countries. Mitt Romney was sent to France in 1968 as part of a Missionary Team. He was there for about 30 months.
Mormon missionaries are those young guys in the white shirts on bicycles trying to convert Christians into Mormonism.
During the Vietnam War the Mormon leadership was pretty much its own draft board and able to send a potential draftee on a Mormon mission instead, Romney did that and made zero converts during his time in France, which is odd for someone who became so accomplished in sales jobs like politician. all the way to the presidential race.
Americans have no business fighting for the Ukrainian regime!
I hope that misguided Conor Kennedy avoids arrest by Russia, however.
Since the United States and just about all of our friends and allies around the globe support the Ukraine fight against the Russian and North Korean forces, it isn’t shocking that some Americans would want to volunteer there.
Our president currently has some American military in Ukraine learning from them and he also had American military in Ukraine training and arming the Ukraines for the upcoming fight with Russia, during his first term.
The risk Tillman took was putting his life in the hands of others. You start with the jock/testosterone mentality that thinks you’re invincible and can go on and do good deeds like superman. The entire country felt that way when Viet Nam was threatened. We learned. 911 happens and Tillman’s knee jerk reaction was to go and fight. Laudable yes but smart? Same with the Lone Survivor flick/novel. These guys got themselves killed when they let 4 goat herders who discovered them walk away. They should have aborted the mission or murdered them. Testosterone and the stigma of failure got in their way plus don’t leave out their values of right and wrong. Tillman and his makeup did him in. I just wouldn’t put myself in position to let someone else put my life in danger.
A guy joins the military and becomes a Ranger and you think that was stupid because other humans are involved as part of his military unit?
It sounds like you have your “testosterone” and “jock mentality” well under control and locked down thoroughly.
Please be aware I an alive. Doing ok. Pat Tillman is not.
In Viet Nam there’s at least a hundred instances or so of fragging(Wikipedia). If any lieutenant wanting medals looked at me and others as their cannon fodder I would have had no problem taking them out. They(and you) can lead. Just make sure you go first.
You sure sound negative and whiny, the guy did the right thing by enlisting and he died in a firefight from friendly fire, it happens, the left used to make fun of Bob Dole because his injuries may have come from a grenade that he threw at the enemy, it happens, living forever isn’t the purpose of life, it is to live during the time that you are alive.
**living forever isn’t the purpose of life, it is to live during the time that you are alive.**
Ok so ya got me-I think.
No living weakly and fearful isn’t much living but if it makes you feel safe, then fine, but mocking other men for their good choices in life like enlisting in the military and becoming Rangers and SEALs is weak.
Let’s just say I find the whole episode troubling.
