I wonder what part of human psychology it is to which being oppressed has an appeal.

A friend of mine (an American) inherited a house from her mother, who was born in Canada, but lived her adult life and died in the USA. This occurred just before covid broke out

My friend travelled to her property a few times to take care of it, and due to Covid travel restrictions and lock-downs, was forced to stay there for weeks at a time.

She said that police in the Canadian town received so many calls of an "American license plate" driving around in the neighborhood, she was on a first-name basis with the cops there.
