Later on, after it was too late, I was told that a person has to ask about it before a Mason can talk about it.

So, you were never in De Molay, the Mason's youth organization?

When I was a kid some of my friends talked about their membership. I asked my parents and they told me I could not join because they were Masons.

I never even heard of De Molay until I was an adult and even when I heard it I didn’t know what it was until I was in my thirties at least.

Similar experience here. The Lodge was a few blocks away. I saw some buddies out front and talked to them. They were DeMolay. I went home and asked by folks. No, I was not going to join anything to do with the Masons. Most families have Masons in their linage. WM today.
