The city of Malibu has declared a local emergency, paving the way for officials to clear homeless encampments ahead of peak wildfire season.
The Malibu City Council approved the emergency declaration Aug. 10, allowing encampments to be cleared the same day notices are issued.
City officials fear a spark from an encampment could be whipped up by winds and quickly develop into a large wildfire. According to city data, 41 fires in Malibu are believed to have been started by individuals experiencing homelessness.

These homeless encampments should not exist in the first place.

Generally, if the homeless were NEAKNIKS, things would be different.

Besides, Malibu is warm, right on the beach. Of course the ocean there is only 50 degrees, so the only souls in the oceans are nine-year-old kids. BRRR!

If they could afford a place to stay, they wouldn’t be homeless. Unfortunately, telling them not to be homeless doesn’t resolve the issue.
Why clear out the encampments ahead of fire? I suppose if they are deemed to be in the way of moving fire fighting equipment it constitutes a reason.
Because the “people experiencing homelessness” in California have a history of starting fires.
