This is all true. The argument was that if you let gays get married, they would live “normal” lives in committed relationships and all the libertine promiscuousness that the public saw would go away; in essence, the debauchery that everyone saw at Gay Pride resulted from gays not being allowed to be in normal, committed relationships like everyone else. We see how that turned out.
But anyone who starts the clock on what is happening today with gay marriage is fooling themselves. Gay marriage would not have happened without the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s. Sleeping around, no fault divorce, living together, the heterosexual sexual debauchery of the 1970s (wife swapping, anyone?), over 50% of couples getting divorced, the number of people thinking affairs are OK skyrocketing. We need to take a good look in the mirror at ourselves and place blame squarely on ourselves for this mess. Its comforting to think that gays are causing all the problems. Gays are less than 5% of the population. They would not be able to cause any problem if good old average Americans didn’t start down the path themselves.
