People did, eventually, support gay marriage - not because they thought it was right, but because it would get gays to SHUT THE HELL UP.
Instead, with gay marriage in place, they went after our kids. Thanks a lot, Justice Kennedy.
The old adage remains true:

That is why it is worth fighting for every inch—with everything you have.
