Imagine taking a day off from work in a future without capitalism. (The DSA platform)

Imagine taking a day off from work in a future without capitalism.

It might not feel as badly needed as it does now. You enjoy your work; it’s interesting to you, and you’re well trained for it. You work as much as you are able and no more than needed, and you would control your own labor and see it going to good use. It’s not just a job to pay the bills.

These are all familiar, everyday activities. A socialist day off could be like any good day now. But what if you were free to spend your time how you like without worrying about cost or dreading going back to work? What if you didn’t have to think about paying rent or loans at the end of the month, or saving for college, or affording groceries? You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord, because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities.

OK, enough about bills. What do you do on your day off? Maybe in the morning, you walk your kids to school, run errands, or go to a doctor’s appointment. In the afternoon, you might play a sport, practice a new skill, read, plan a trip. In the evening, you could meet up with friends or family and eat together, maybe go to the movies or down to the park.

Unlike most of you, I got to spend random summers in a socialist paradise. My family was from Yugoslavia, and thanks to Tito’s “non-aligned” socialism, we got to go in and out, visiting family.

I could tell a million stories, but suffice it to say that socialism breeds an ennui and apathy that is terrible for a society. They fell for the same promises we hear today, and lived to regret it. Let’s not make the same mistake.

I spent a week in the U.S.S.R. That was enough for me.

After God created man, he placed him in the Garden to work it. Enjoyable work. Like one pastor said “I mean, he got to name all of the animals - how cool would that be!?”

After the Fall, man is still to work, but it won’t always be enjoyable:

“...cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread...”

Work is ordained by God. This Communist utopia stuff is anti-God.

1. You walk your kids to school. What if nobody wants to teach school in this socialist paradise?

2. You run errands. Who’s working at these places you’re going to for whatever errands you run. Who is forced to work at these places?

3. ...or go to a doctor’s appointment. Who wants to be a doctor? You have to go through an extra 8 years of school. You can just be an artist or pet walker and still live in the same wonderful housing with the same wonderful food and retirement. Why bother?

4. You might play a sport. Guess somebody wants to run the sports complex on your day off. Lucky you!

5. In the evening you can meet with friends and eat together. Probably at home because nobody wants to work in restaurant and deal with the public.

6. ...or go to the movies. You know the movies are going to be socialist approved. And again, who’s going to work at a theater in the evening for the fun of it? Guess you’ll be bringing your own popcorn and soda pop.

Of course this all assumes somebody grew the popcorn, fixed the broken popcorn machine, and manufactured the soda pop. None of this should be expected in a socialist world.

We’ve seen this scenario enough to know how it turn out. How naive must people be to fall for such simplistic pap? Where everything is better for everybody because nobody has to work for anything that just continues to exist because it does now.

I know right? But if they cared and didn’t have so much cash to do it right, would 200,000,000 dead and starved be a statistic...one a tragedy?

It’s easy to laugh and make fun of such irrational ideas.

Sad thing is a very large number of people will believe it’s possible and vote accordingly.

A Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsche’s
I must make amends

I worked hard all my lifetime
No help from my friends
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
A Mercedes Benz?

If no one has to work for their needs, then very few people will work. If not enough people work in the “grunt” jobs, then people will be conscripted to do so.

Socialism always turns to communism and people working at gunpoint in the fields. Slavery is what they are demanding.
