But many people who buy a small pickup (like I did with a Ranger decades ago) use it mainly to commute to work, then do every now and then dirty light weekend chores (i.e. me throwing my push mower and weed trimmer in the back to go cut my mother's grass). If the daily commute is long enough for the gas savings of an EV to be substantial, and if you can set up charging at home, and if you're married and need two cars anyway so that the other car can be a gas car for long trips (if the trip doesn't have fast chargers or is up north during the winter), then a small EV pickup might be a good use case.
That's how my wife and I use our EV car and gas pickup. We every now and then carry heavy loads on somewhat long trips -- the reason that the pickup is gas and the crossover is the EV. The EV is driven 24K miles per year, with 18K charged at home (a very substantial gas savings).
Do you plan to sell it when the battery goes, or spend the money you save on gas to buy a new battery?
If commuting like in the Ranger it would be better with two doors and a larger bed. If you have four doors you might have well have an SUV with rear seats that fold down so you can have longer storage space. There are enough small pickups with four doors with tiny beds in the marketplace IMHO. I would rather have a Slate with a non-turbo 4 or diesel.
