No one’s ever accused me of having a light touch. Think Mongo in Blazing Saddles. Karras and I are very close to the same size. He was a couple years older but we played ball at the same time and it would have been fun to play with or against him. But we live(d) on the wrong sides of the country. I expect he couldn’t open a bag either.

Not sure about bags, but I knew someone who took a college gym class or two with Alex Karras, and he said that he and Karras were the only two guys who couldn't climb a rope to "save our ass" (as it was phrased).

FWIW, he also said that - for a university jock - Alex was a pretty good guy.

I occasionally worked with Karras on Monday Night Football; just a naturally funny guy! If you asked him the time he could make you laugh. Blazing Saddles was a good depiction for Karras! 😂
