Yes, Point Dume commands a premium because of proximity to the beach. There is a string of mansions along the bluff overlooking the ocean. And because it’s in Malibu, it’s outside the City of LA, and I’m guessing that the fire hydrants work.
Of course, a big chunk of Point Dume is also occupied by a trailer park established back in the 1960’s when Ronald Reagan was governor, California had a lot fewer people, the infinite sprawl that has consumed most of the coast was just beginning, and Mexico was just beginning to move north. That’s the era in which the living was easy, beach bums became a thing, and the Malibu legend was born.
The trailer park is “The Point Dume Club.” It is Malibu’s version of affordable housing. When it was established, people towed their vacation trailers to their lots, hooked up, and took their summer vacations at the beach. Some started living there year-round. The regs changed, and the old trailers gave way to manufactured mobile housing. But the basic layout is still that of a traditional trailer park, with as many units as possible packed as tightly together as possible on very small lots separated by privacy fences. It’s one of those lower cost Malibu “gated communities” that attracted a scattering of movie people; it’s a good, relatively lower cost option for people who are often on travel, sometimes for six months, give or take, shooting something halfway around the world. An empty house becomes a target really fast, and most actors aren’t in the megabucks range where they have personal gated compounds, live-in staff, and 24/7 security.
Nothing in Malibu is cheap nowadays because it’s California and because it’s right along the ocean. But there’s nothing super special about Point Dume. It’s just the promontory on the northern edge of Los Angeles Bay, with Palos Verdes being on the other end. And it’s within reasonable driving range of downtown LA, so it’s basically an inner ring suburb. It has taken significant fire damage more than once, although it was not caught in the last round.
I’m sure Kamala didn’t move into the trailer park. But Point Dume is just another neighborhood in Malibu, which is a long string of beachfront communities just outside of the City of Los Angeles. If you’ve ever driven the PCH, you’ve driven right by it.
Go to googlemaps street view and drive around. It’s a nice area. Willie Brown’s girlfriend has made a bundle in “public service” with basically a zero record of achievement, which is the California democrat way. But if I were going to snark at her, I wouldn’t just point to the mansion; I’d make a point that not even Kamala Harris is willing to live in Karen Bass’ LA.
Prior to buying the Point Dume house, Kamala and her boytoy lived in Brentwood, which IS in the City of Los Angeles. So Kamala has fled LA along with so many others who can get out.
Now hold on a minute, what record of achievement were you expecting from someone with zero capability? Seems a bit unfair.
